primary goal of the second phase will be to increase the angular |

| resolution of the VLA by a factor of 10. This will be done by incorporating |
|||||||
| the
inner VLBA antennas and adding 8 new antennas: The New Mexico |
|||||||
| Array. |

| In
addition, low frequency systems will be installed at the prime focus and |
|||||||
| a new
ultracompact array configuration will be added (E configuration). |
